Psalm 12
"Save (ישׁע), Yahweh, for the godly (חָסִיד) one is gone, for the faithful (אֵמוּן) have vanished from among the children of man. Everyone utters lies to his neighbour. With flattering lips and a double heart they speak." - Psalm 12:1-2
In this psalm, David expresses his deep concern that godly men and women are vanishing from the earth. The whole human race is pack of liars. The powerful are enslaving weak. Their power is their god, and they don't recognise any master above them. Might makes right. Here's a horrible example. But God is on the side of the weak. He will come and protect them. His promises to the poor are sure and certain.
Let us be among the the godly ones, the faithful, who speak the truth. Let's not flatter with our lips or speak with a double heart. May we know God and his plan well, and speak to men and women in truth and love.
Father, the number of believers in our nation continues to diminish, and lies are commonly spoken as if true. Bring us back to you and your word, that we may know and live in accordance with the truth. Thank you for your promises to the poor and needy. We are not particularly poor and needy here in New Zealand, but we do lift up prayers for believers in Africa and Asia who are. Fulfil your promises to them through us. May we play our part in providing them relief. Thank you for your faithfulness to us even when society slouches toward Gomorrah. In Jesus' name, amen.
