Break the Arm of the Wicked

Psalm 10

"Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, 'You will not call to account'? But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands. To you the helpless commits himself. You have been the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer. Call his wickedness to account till you find none." - Psalm 10:13-15

Psalms 3-9 were written by David. We don't know who wrote this psalm. Whoever it was was upset at the wicked's oppression of the helpless. The wicked think they can get away with their wickedness, but God does eventually call them to account.

Most "wicked" today don't view themselves as wicked. They probably don't even have a category in their mind, "wicked" and "righteous." Because under postmodernism each person gets to determine what is good and evil for them, there is no objective standard for wickedness and righteousness. That's why much of the Bible simply doesn't make sense to modern people. The wicked are wicked in God's sight without knowing or acknowledging they are wicked.

Christianity is under attack in New Zealand, and we must say it is under attack by wicked people. One can get away with saying things about Christians these days that one can't get away with saying about anyone else. The government, the news media, and the public education system appear to want to eliminate all vestige of Christianity as quickly as possible from New Zealand life. The closure of this Christian school in Northland is a good example of what is happening. Why can't the government leave Christian schools alone to teach on gender and sexuality in a way that fits their doctrinal beliefs, beliefs that are important to them and have not changed for the past 2000 years? Is the government really going to force all conservative Christian schools to teach the radical LGTBTQ+ view of sexuality, one that just popped up in the last twenty years?

Wickedness is not just about what we do, it's also about how we think. Worldviews can be wicked. Worldviews that start with the assumption, "God does not exist," are indeed wicked, and they lead to wicked outcomes. Unfortunately, New Zealand is headed for more wickedness in its future, not less, unless things turn around in a drastic way.

Father, this land has been called "God's country," but it is that no longer. Thank you, Father, you do exist and that you never change. I pray for the officials of this school in Northland, that you will give them encouragement and wisdom. Help them to get fair press, so that their side of the story may be told. I pray that the press in New Zealand will be more fair and balanced. May the heart of New Zealanders be open to the gospel message of Jesus. May New Zealanders become passionate, bold defenders of the gospel, of the Bible, of Jesus, and of you. In Jesus' name, amen.
