Psalm 3
"But you, Yahweh, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to Yahweh, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah. I lay down and slept. I woke again, for Yahweh sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around." - Psalm 3:3-6
David's own son Absalom is rebelling against him, seeking to take his father's throne. This must have hurt David deeply. Betrayed by his own son! But David has been through this before, with Saul. He turns to God, his shield. He sleeps peacefully, despite his many enemies, because he is certain God will save and bless him.
When I feel discouraged and disheartened by the way I am treated, I can be like David and turn to God, who is my shield. I don't need to worry or lose sleep. God will handle it. His intention is to save and bless me, and all those who call upon his name.
Father, I love David's outlook in this psalm. Help me to remember that when I am surrounded by enemies, you are my shield. In such situations, may I be calm and poised and wait for you to act. In Jesus' name, amen.
