They Fell Down and Worshipped Him

Matthew 2

"When [the wise men] saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh." - Matthew 2:10-11

Matthew tells how Gentile wise men from east were among the first to worship the baby Jesus. When they found him, they were filled with great joy and fell down and worshipped him. They presented him royal treasures brought from afar.

Finding Jesus after a long search brings great joy to one's life. I am full of joy this morning because I have found Jesus--the Key to life, the Bread from heaven, the King of kings. In a Jewish context, worship is an action one does before God alone. These wise men are worshipping a Jewish baby. They must believe Jesus is in some sense God. The faith of these wise men, and their understanding of Scripture, is extraordinary.

It is Thanksgiving back home today. May all in my family know the joy of finding and worshipping Jesus, the King of kings. With thanksgiving, may we bring our treasures to set before him.

Father, thank you for the faith example of these wise men. May we be filled with joy at finding Jesus, as they were. May we bring gifts to Jesus because he is the King. Bless my family, and may each member of our family experience the true joy of finding Jesus and worshipping him as God and King. Thank you for sending your one and only Son into our world to save us from sin and death and give us confident hope. In Jesus' name, amen.
